Ruchill Community Allotments

Maryhill Housing Association has secured a 25 year lease of land from Glasgow City Council for the former Our Lady of Assumption Primary School site and will be lead organisation for the project.

The project will be community led by local people. Maryhill HA will lead on the development and work with local residents, local groups and organisations to develop a Steering Group who will eventually be responsible for the project (overseeing and operations). In due course, a company/ charity may be established to take over the management and development of the community allotments.

It has been estimated that to transform the whole site (1.9 acres) it would cost in the region of £750,000. To make this more feasible the project will be developed in phases.

Interim Project Proposal – Pop Up Allotments

In order to keep the momentum of the project going, it is proposed to create ‘pop up’ allotments

The creation of pop up allotments is ideal as it would allow the project to be created (although in a much smaller scale). It would also help in the development of the project on a larger scale as well as the establishment of a group who will eventually take over the management of the allotments.

It is proposed that we have between 5-10 raised beds for the pop up allotments plus a greenhouse and shelter.  This will allow local people to get involved and help develop the project on a small scale.

If you would like further information about the project please contact Ruth Adam or Dawn Baird at Maryhill Housing Association on 0141 948 1130 or alternatively submit the contact form below and we will get in touch with you.

Get Your Own Growing Space!

The Ruchill Pop Up Allotment site is based just off Bilsland Drive at the former Our Lady of the Assumption Primary School.

We have raised beds which are now available to lease for just £12 per year! There will also be a small charge for keys for the site.

If you are interested in getting involved in the project, you are most welcome to attend an open day on Thursday 28th April between 3.30pm and 5.30pm. You can complete a form there if you are interested in applying for a raised planter.  Come along and have a look!

If you can’t make it along but would like to apply please contact Ruth Adam or Dawn Burns at Maryhill Housing Association for an application form on 0141 946 2466 or email radam@maryhill.org.uk or dburns@maryhill.org.uk.
